Happy 4th of July from my family to yours! It feels so perfect to be celebrating #independenceday
while on this #greatamericanroadtrip
. It’s my first Independence Day celebration as an American and driving through America seems like a great way to love on this great country.
Day 4 (yesterday) was spent traveling from the Lake of the Ozarks to Oklahoma City. On our way, we stopped at a couple of Route 66 attractions.
The first was Kan-O-Tex station in Galena, KS. This stop was for Tobe. He enjoyed seeing characters from the movie cars in real life. We also had Lunch in Galena. If you are ever in Galena, I highly recommend Mi Torito. It was delicious Mexican food.
Next stop was the Blue whale. I have to admit this was a rather boring stop. Back in the day this used to be a fun watering hole/splash pool for the kids but now it’s just an old whale structure. But we got some shave ice at this stop! It helped cool off on a ridiculously hot day. The portion size and price of the ice was enormous! I’m not really sure why. The one shown in Tobe’s picture cost 10 dollars but it was more than enough for the whole family and we had to trash a lot of it. Smaller and cheaper portions would have made more sense but that wasn’t an option.
After the blue whale, our next stop was in Edmond Oklahoma. I showed my husband and brother my alma mater and visited my godparents. We then drove to our RV park and spent the rest of the day there.
On an important side note, I can’t believe my Olona is already 1 month old! See how big she has gotten in that picture of her and her grandma. I love watching her grow.
