It takes a village... .
Every year, I buy the kids their Easter outfit, the themed shirts, the decorations, make plans for the photos etc. Today we staged this impromptu shoot and it got me thinking... These photos were taken in our yard. We found decorations around the house and... gasp 🙈 the kids are wearing “old” clothes. Hear me out: .
We think we need all the things to “make” a holiday- the perfectly coordinated outfits, the themed out decorations, that one photo with all the kids smiling at the camera to commemorate the occasion. I mean thinking of all of that, honestly? It feels ridiculous. Fluffing up the kids, fussing over every detail, twisting my neck and maybe their arm 🙊 just to get a picture?!? Why must we do these things? Who decided that this was the normal “to do” for a holiday? .
If there’s a message to be learned through all of this, I’ll put it simply: Chill, mama. Give yourself AND THE REST OF US... a break. .
Do you understand that we have the power to make “normal” whatever we want? All we have to do is show up as ourselves! We want to see the mess your kids made in the house. We want be totally cool with each other’s no make up look if we didn’t feel like it that day. We want to know about the time you forgot to pack your kids lunches for school. Why? Because, it’s life! It’s the real stuff! .
How many of you shared or saw that “I hear it takes a village, so when is mine going show up?” Meme. Guess what? It’s not gonna show up until YOU do. We can’t create community out of conformity, comparison & competition. And you don’t “build your tribe” without knowing who you are first. How can you let someone “see” what you aren’t even in touch with yet? .
We’re all gonna be sitting inside awhile. The real stuff is gonna happen. Let’s talk about it. Let us see your day to day. We can all continue to share sarcastic memes and bond over a laugh about the tiger king, but don’t you want more? .
I do. And not just for me, for you too! And for the future our children. Like we preach to them, “Just be you! Don’t change for anyone. Choose kindness.” It takes a village! 😉 Tag your posts #soulcialmediarevolution
